Nasce a Roma il primo ottobre 1959 . Si appassiona alla magia fotografica da bambino già all'età di 6 anni grazie alla pratica di un padre fotoamatore . Di quella primissima epoca rimarranno indelebili i ricordi legati all'apparire delle prime immagini in bianco e nero nell'improvvisata camera oscura casalinga . Il giorno dell' Epifania del 1968 gli viene regalata la prima macchina fotografica , una biottica di plastica di produzione cinese , ed inizia a fotografare . A quella prima macchina seguiranno vecchie folder ( goertz , kodak ed altre ) , fino ad una storica Leica 3a del 1939 acquistata usata per il 12° compleanno in un negozio della capitale . Adolescente nei turbolenti anni '70 , inizia a viaggiare . A 18 anni si iscrive alla Facoltà di Architettura di Roma , dove seguirà i corsi di Storia dell' Arte Moderna e Contemporanea tenuti da Achille Bonito Oliva . All' età di 20 prende la definitiva decisione di dedicarsi alla fotografia . Seguendo la passione per la musica , che mai lo abbandonerà , inizia a fotografare concerti rock e jazz , musicisti e personaggi dello spettacolo , pubblicando su quotidiani e settimanali , con risultati di soddisfazione ma di scarso rilievo economico . Entra a far parte di un'agenzia d'attualità romana , ed in poco tempo si afferma come uno dei migliori reporter di quegli anni , collaborando con testate estere quali Paris Match , Bunte , Hola e molte altre , seguendo il jet set internazionale ed in particolare Carolina di Monaco , Lady Diana e Carlo d' Inghilterra , dei quali sarà accreditato dalla Casa Reale inglese a documentare il lungo viaggio di nozze in Italia . Dopo sei anni , in seguito ad una profonda crisi personale , abbandona l'attualità ed inizia a dedicarsi alla fotografia di scena ed al ritratto femminile , con una predilezione per un glamour di sapore più anglosassone che italiano . Viene notato da Vittorio Corona , allora direttore dei mensili Moda e King , che inizia a commissionargli lavori con attrici e modelle . Nel 1993 , presentato da Giovanna Calvenzi vince ad Arles il prestigioso premio Young European Photographer . Nel 1995 inizia a collaborare con la catena internazionale di Playboy , in particolar modo con l'edizione tedesca ( tra gli assignements due Playmate of the Year ed il Playmate of the Century ) , e con la testata Rizzoli Max , per la quale realizzerà numerosissimi servizi , copertine e calendari . Parallelamente all'attività editoriale come ritrattista , nel corso degli anni sarà autore di importanti campagne pubblicitarie e redazionali di moda in Italia ed all' estero , aventi sempre come protagonista l'universo femminile . Suoi portfolio ed interviste sono stati pubblicati dalla stampa specializzata in Inghilterra , Germania , Francia , Spagna , Stati Uniti , Australia , Russia e Giappone .
Nel 2001 grazie a Christian Parth , patron di Fuji Italia , realizza il volume " Girls don' t Cry " ; viene inoltre chiamato a tenere una serie di workshop da Franco Fontana , art director del prestigioso Toscana Foto Festival , collaborazione che proseguirà fino ad oggi ; terrà in seguito lezioni e workshop anche a Roma presso l' Istituto Superiore di Fotografia e l' Istituto Europeo di Design . Nel 2002 pur continuando la collaborazione con alcune realtà professionali si ritira in una località isolata per dedicarsi alla ricerca artistica ed agli interessi musicali . Nello stesso anno nelle piazze di Milano e di Roma , a cura di Giulio Forti , Tita Beretta e Maurizio Rebuzzini realizza l' esposizione " I Modi della Moda " per l' Associazione Italiana Digital Imaging . Nel 2003 espone presso la Galleria d' Arte Moderna e Contemporanea di Bondeno all' interno della mostra "Le retoriche di Eros " . Nel 2004 espone presso l' area museale di Ca’ La Ghironda - Centro d’Arte Moderna e Contemporanea di Bologna all' interno della mostra curata da Roberto Roda " Il Nudo Fotografato ed il Sogno della Pittura - dall’Accademia al digitale (1870-2004) " . Nel 2005 espone presso la Galleria d' Arte Moderna e Contemporanea di Bondeno all' interno della mostra " La Nemica del Cuore " , ed al Photoshow di Milano con " Twelve " , una serie di 12 ritratti di star . Nello stesso anno debutta nella regia con " Alina " , un cortometraggio per il festival " I Corti di Sabaudia " organizzato da Cinecittà Cinema . Nel 2006 proseguirà a Roma la collaborazione con il Photoshow con la mostra " Art A' Part " , una serie di opere tra fotografia e grafica . Nel 2007 , da un lavoro per Massimo Fasoli , gli viene dedicata presso la galleria Ken Damy di Brescia la personale " Giovanni Cozzi , tra fotografia e pittura " , una serie di ritratti femminili ispirati a celebri dipinti rinascimentali ; espone inoltre all' interno della mostra " Eredità del Simbolismo " alla Galleria d'arte Moderna di Cento . Nel 2008 Rizzoli , in supplemento al mensile Max , edita una monografia interamente dedicata al suo lavoro nel mondo dell' erotismo e del glamour . Nel 2009 espone con il pittore e scultore Eros Renzetti alla Silber Gallery di Roma . Nel 2010 realizza copertine ed interni del magazine Corriere della Sera - Sette con i ritratti delle attrici Martina Stella ( ambientata al MAXXI di Roma ) e Cristiana Capotondi . Espone all' interno della mostra " I Love Music " con due ritratti di Gianna Nannini e Patti Pravo , oggi alla Takeawaygallery , ed a Roma nel febbraio 2011 tiene la personale " Ritratto di Cristiana Capotondi " alla galleria Opera Unica . Nello stesso anno sempre a Roma espone all' interno della manifestazione " Electronicartcafè " a cura di Umberto Scrocca e Achille Bonito Oliva ed alla galleria Palazzetto nella collettiva " Il Segno d' Italia " .
Nel mese di marzo 2012 ha esposto a Roma presso la Onepieceart Gallery di Olimpia Orsini due opere all' interno della mostra a cura di Barbara Martusciello " La Verità è nuda , ma sotto la pelle giace l' anatomia " .
Giovanni Cozzi was born in Rome on 1st October 1959. He has been interested in the magic of photography since he was a child, thanks to the practice of his father. The memories of the appearance of the first black and white images, in his rough self-made darkroom, will remain indelible in his heart and mind. It was the Epiphany of 1968 when he started taking photographs with its new present: a bi-optic plastic camera made in China. A lot of cameras of different kind followed the first one, up to a historic “Leica 3a” made in 1939 bought for his 12 th birthday at a store in the center of Rome. In the turbulent 70’s Giovanni was a teenager and he began to travel. At 18 Giovanni enrolled at the Faculty of Architecture in Rome, where he attended the History of Modern and Contemporary Art course, that was held by Achille Bonito Oliva. He was 20 years old when he took the final decision to devote himself to photography. Following his passion for music, that never abandoned him, he began taking pictures of rock concerts, jazz musicians and celebrities, publishing his work on newspapers and magazines, with great satisfactions but little economic income. He become part of a press agency in Rome, and quickly established himself as one of the best reporters of those years, working with foreign magazines such as Paris Match, Bunte, Hola and many others. He followed the international jet set and particularly Caroline of Monaco; he was also accredited by the British Royal Family to follow Princess Diana and Prince Charles during their honeymoon in Italy. After six years, due to a deep personal crisis, Giovanni left the news and began to devote himself to the female portrait, with a preference for an Anglo-Saxon glamorous taste. He caught the attention of Vittorio Corona, the director of the monthly magazines “Moda” and “King”, who began to commission him a lot of works with actresses and models. In 1993 at Arles, introduced by Giovanna Calvenzi, Giovanni wins the prestigious prize “ Young European Photographer”. In 1995 he started working with the international magazine Playboy, especially with the German edition, the main works done were for the Playmate of the Year and the Playmate of the Century. Over the years Giovanni made, in conjunction with his editorialist work as a photographer, some of the major advertising campaigns for the fashion’s market in Italy and abroad: the main message he expressed through his pictures was based on the description of female’s universe. His portfolio and interviews were published by the press in England, Germany, France, Spain, United States, Australia, Russia and Japan.
In 2001, thanks to Christian Parth, owner of Fuji Italy, Giovanni made the book "Girls Don 't Cry", during this year he hold a series of workshops. At this time the co-operation with Franco Fontana, art director of the prestigious Toscana Foto Festival began; This close co-operation is still active today. Later Giovanni held lectures and workshops in Rome at the Institute of Photography and the European Institute of Design. In 2002, while continuing his work with some professional entities, he retreats to an isolated area to concentrate on his artistic and musical interests. In the same year Giovanni worked to the exhibition called "The Ways of Fashion". This exhibition, was located in the streets of Milan and Rome, and was edited for the Italian Association of Digital Imaging by Giulio Forti, Tita Beretta and Maurizio Rebuzzini. In 2003 he exhibited in Bondeno, at the “Galleria d'Arte Moderna e Contemporanea” for the exhibition titled "The rhetoric of Eros". In 2004 he exhibited in Bologna at the museum center of “Ca La Ghironda”. The exhibition was titled “Il Nudo Fotografato ed il Sogno della Pittura - dall’Accademia al digitale (1870-2004)" and the manager was Roberto Roda. In 2005 he was once again in Bondeno for the exhibition "The Heart of the Enemy", and he also exposed his work “Twelve” at the Photoshow of Milan. “Twelve” was a work composed of a series of 12 portraits of stars. That same year, Giovanni makes his directorial debut with "Alina", a short film for the festival "I Corti di Sabaudia" organized by Cinecittà Cinema. In 2006 in Rome, since he had kept collaborating with the Photoshow, he presented the exhibition "Art A 'Part”, a series of works including photography and graphics. In 2007 Massimo Fasoli organized a personal tribute to Giovanni titled “Giovanni Cozzi, about photography and painting". The exhibition was held at the gallery “Ken Damy” in Brescia and was based on female portraits inspired by famous Renaissance paintings. Giovanni also exhibit his work at the exhibition titled "Heritage of Symbolism" that was held at the Gallery of Modern Art in Cento. In 2008 Rizzoli, in its annex to the monthly magazine Max, published a monograph entirely devoted to his work in the world of eroticism and glamour. In 2009 he exhibited with the painter and sculptor Eros Renzetti at the Silber Gallery in Rome. In 2010 Giovanni worked for the covers and interiors of the magazine “Corriere della sera-Sette” with portraits of actresses Martina Stella (set at MAXXI in Rome) and Cristiana Capotondi. He participated in the exhibition "I Love Music" with two portraits of Gianna Nannini and Patti Pravo; The pictures of the famous singers are now shown at the Takeawaygallery in Rome. In February 2011 Giovanni exhibit his work "Portrait of Cristiana Capotondi" at the Opera Unica Gallery. In the same year, once again in Rome, Giovanni exhibit his work at “Electronicartcafè", an event organized by Umberto Scrocca and Achille Bonito Oliva, and in " The Sign of 'Italy” at the Palazzetto gallery in Rome .
In March 2012 Giovanni exhibit two works on nude at Olimpia Orsini's Onepieceart Gallery for the show manageded by Barbara Martusciello " La Verità è nuda , ma sotto la pelle giace l' anatomia " .
